Nashua Democrats

Susan Elberger - Candidate for Chair

My name is Susan Elberger. I have been voting for Democrats since I was old enough to vote. I am currently the Vice-Chair of the NDCC and a second-term State Representative from Ward 1. I have significant experience as Board Chair of other organizations, and have led strategic planning efforts for several of them.

Why does this matter? We live in a time when politics as usual is a memory. When the rules change, we must adapt and change as well. Leading that effort, we need someone with the vision to help us see where we need to go and the experience to help us get there.

The NDCC has two major jobs: to elect good Democratic candidates, and to bring more Nashua Democrats into active roles within the NDCC. We can’t — and shouldn’t — leave the work and decision-making solely to Board members. This isn’t a private club. We must be the catalyst to recruit members who have the energy and drive to achieve our goals.

Some ways I have worked toward this goal have been
  • setting up office hours for you to meet your State Representatives
  • presenting forums with guest speakers focusing on maternal health, children’s issues, and the state budget
  • meeting, along with my friend State Representative Heather Raymond, with students at Nashua Community College to help them learn how state government works
  • planning, along with my friend State Representative Christal Lloyd, the Spaghetti Supper last Sunday, which brought over 100 people together to talk with each other about their concerns and to begin to understand how to get more involved in the political process

We Democrats are energized because of the chaos in our state and our country. We need to take advantage of this energy by asking every Nashua Democrat to get involved. I will develop committees that encourage people to work at whatever levels they choose in areas where they want to work, such as event planning, fundraising, candidate recruitment, messaging, publicity, and outreach to the community. We will find a place to use all the skills that so many want to share with us.

If elected, at the May meeting I plan to ask a member of the Board of Aldermen, Board of Education, and a State Representative to let us know how to connect with them and how citizens can inform them of their concerns. Later meetings will include presentations and discussions about issues that are of importance to our membership.

We have extraordinarily talented people among us who are eager to take on roles that will support the NDCC. I welcome you to join me in helping us keep Nashua blue, and in growing our Democratic community.

I ask for your vote on April 10th .
