Brief Biography

I was born in Providence RI and moved to Nashua in 1981. I am married to Sue Newman. We have 3 grown children and 6 grandchildren. I have a BA degree in education from Providence College. After graduation in 1968, I was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army. I served in Viet Nam as a helicopter pilot. After my military service, I was employed by the FAA as an air traffic controller and supervisor. Upon retirement I worked for the MITRE Corp. as a Subject Matter Expert performing research to automate Air Traffic Control.

I have been interested in politics since I was a teenager discussing JFK with my grandmother. As a federal government employee and contractor, I was prohibited from seeking election in partisan politics. However, my wife served two terms as a school board member, and for the past 2 years as a State Representative. Observing her as an elected official, helped me to participate in political activities as a more knowledgeable citizen. I also was able to observe the political process in both Nashua and Concord.

Why are you running for this office?

I appreciate the valuable outcomes that can be achieved through public service. The common-sense legislation I would advocate for would affect issues like; affordable health care, response to the opioid crisis, gun and school safety, public education, commuter rail and voter access. Over the past several years such legislation has not been supported or passed by the Republican majority in Concord. If elected I will be an advocate for the passage of common-sense legislation that affects the issues listed above.

What makes you uniquely qualified for this position?

I believe that the leadership and communication skills that I developed in my professional career will be valuable in the debate and consideration of legislation. Also, I think that the experience of working for the FAA and later for MITRE Corp. provided me with knowledge of government rules, regulations and structures, and interactions with the private sector.  That background will be helpful to me in the performance of the duties of a State Representative.
